Class Information
Dear Parents,
Welcome to another exciting year in your child’s educational journey. My name is Jamie Cooper and I’m your child’s Reading teacher. This is my 11th year teaching 5th grade with PGSD and my 9th year at Singing River Academy. I have a bachelors and a masters degree in Education and I’m currently pursuing my Education Specialist Degree in K-12 Leadership at Ole Miss.
Goals and teaching style
My goal this year is to have every child exceed expectations. I’m very passionate about my career choice and take it very seriously. I like to make class enjoyable with room transformations, group activities, music, Google Classroom and my own personal spin on concepts.
Grades
The majority of the grades I take are quizzes from our book studies, readers response booklets, ReadWorks.org quizzes, Common Assessments (CA’s) and District Assessments (DA’s). Reading projects such as 1-Pagers will also be graded.
Grading Scale
A = 100% - 90%
B = 89% - 80%
C = 79% - 70%
D = 65% - 69%
F = 64% - 0%
Rules
I’m attaching a list of my expectations, consequences and rewards so you and your child know what to expect and how I run my classroom.
Homework
Homework will be assigned on Mondays and should be returned on Thursdays. Your child will read one passage and only needs to complete two days of questions. They may pick whichever days they would like. Homework will be turned in on Thursdays.
Communication
Yellow CHOMP Folder - Students will keep a yellow folder in their book bag at all times. This folder is to be signed every Tuesday night by the parent and brought back on Wednesdays.
The following information will be in the Yellow CHOMP folder
- Important information from school (T-Shirt orders, PTO info, pictures, permission slips, etc)
- Graded assignments
- Homework
- Newsletters
SchoolStatus will be used to text and call. I normally text you first and then I will call if I have concerns.
My conference times will be from 11:05 - 11:55 every day and after at 3:15 school. I am not available after school on Friday.
